Episode 7: Story behind black coffee

Prakash sat in the chair in front of me. Prakash: “This is a nice place ambience wise. Whenever I go to a restaurant, I check the ambience and food review.”

Me: “Yeah, that’s the most important thing before going to any place, else there is no point”

Prakash: “Absolutely”

Me: “What do you want to order?”

Prakash: “Black coffee” Me: “Nice choice, I like black coffee too”

I called the waiter and asked for 2 black coffees.

Prakash: “You know there was a time when I hated black coffee, my colleagues in Australia were huge coffee fan. Once what happened, it was my first day in office there. The infrastructure was great and there was a subtle soothing smell in office. I happened to have an intro meeting. I was waiting for the guy; in a meeting room Everything was fine until he entered. When he entered it smelled like shit as if someone was having a bad stomach day.”

Me: “Noooo way!! you’re kidding.”

Prakash: “Trust me the smell was awful, and the meeting was for 1 hour, I felt like I will throw up. So, imagine how bad the smell was. Fun fact I literally thought he did something in his pants. But it was the smell of Double shot Espresso and I learned that after 2 -3 days and 10- 12 meetings when everyone smelled the same when they had that coffee mug with them”

I could not control my laughter….

Me: “God!! This is funny. Then when you hated the smell so much how did you like it” Prakash: “Well, I used to be overweight at that point in time, I started going to gym and the gym trainer made me take black coffee. And after that I never liked anything but black coffee.” Me: “Cool, then why didn’t you ask for black coffee when you came to see me, with your parents” Prakash: “I don’t like to demand stuff and it would have been awkward to ask.”

I felt good listening to that.

Me: “Ok” Prakash: “How did you like black coffee; I know it is not very common for us Indians. ” Me: “I don’t like sugar and milk, so I switched to green tea and black coffee, although I indulge on sweets occasionally and when I am stressed” Then we started talking about our respective projects and company culture. He also shared what is the new technology in market and asked me if I wanted to read that as he has subscriptions of some tutorial.

It was a cool date kind of thing, I liked it.

Me: “It is getting late, I think we should go.” Prakash: “Yeah, let me drop you.”

Me: “Ok” He paid the bill and asked to wait while he gets the car.

I sat in the seat next to him, he asked “What kind of music do you like? I mean if you have any preference. I generally play FM when I am in the car.”

I said, “I have my own playlist, but when in car I am ok with anything playing”.

Well, the date is not over before the girl and boy say goodbye to each other, to know what happened in the later part of the date stay tuned.
