Ok now, everything was clear to me and conveyed to Karen. I thought it would be very easy and straight forward to say it to my dad as other career decisions.
Well technically, I did not think that the biggest mile before I would sleep was conveying my decision to my dad.
Hahahha silly me, I literally did not know how my dad would react.
It was the last Sunday of the month (I don’t remember which month though). As usual we got together for breakfast. My dad had a sip of his favourite ginger tea and said, “Aj ki chai lajawab bani hai, maza aa gaya” (He meant “the taste of today’s chai is wonderful”), well he never knew, I was going to give him a surprise that would be even more wonderful than the taste of tea,(trust me that was only my thought, you would know now why !!!)
I said, “Dad, Mom, I would like to say something to you.”
Both, “yes baby tell!”
Me, “You know, how I wanted to become a scientist.”
Both, “Yes baby, we are glad that you are so firm in that decision!”
Me, “Thanks, I knew you would always support me on my decision and here is a change in plan.”
Both, “What! Why?”
Me, “Breath you guys, I still want to become a scientist, but with a twist.”
Dad, “Oh! thank god, you saved me from a heart attack, it is ok if you want to do your graduation from a different college we are cool with it, which university you chose, in which country?”
Me, “Mom, Dad you love me right?”
Both, “Of course my child, you know it.”
Me, “Now, please listen to what I am saying, ok?”
Mom, “Ok, I hope you are not going to say that you are not, virgin hahahhahaha………”
I am like wohwohwo (in my head), my mom had quite an interest in my love life, which was null in case of me. But wasn’t that cool? !! Anyway, let us stop imagining and come back to reality.
Me, “Eww !! No mom, I don’t even have a boyfriend.”
Dad, “My daughter is too much focused in her career, she is exactly like me.” My dad said this looking at my mom (In a wired way), as if mom had a history, ok ok ok, it is not good to imagine about my mom’s sex life especially when I am assuming she was not with my dad at that point of time, from dad’s taunt. Anyway, let's come back.
Me, “Yes! dad, I am exactly like you, I want to be you.”
Dad, “See I knew it” to my mom!!!
Me, “Ok guys that is not all I want to say, I have something else to say as well”.
Both, “Yes baby, our ear, mind and soul are all yours till you say everything you want to” both said that in a fun way.
Me, “Ok, here is the thing, this is the thing, the thing is………” I do not know why the hell was I unable to say that, well guess it was not that easy to face them and say it out!
Both, “Please, say.”
Me (gathered all my strength), “I want to pursue, my education in India and that to I want to complete it by taking an education loan and staying in a hostel like every other guy. For that I might want to borrow some money from you if needed.”
They gave me a blank expression! The same expression Karen gave me when I said this to her.
I think it continued for like 15minutes. Everything was so silent that I could hear the sound of my stomach growling. I was like shh you crazy stomach, at least not at this time.
So, yes this is just the first part……….
